Asatsuyu 「朝露」/a.sa.tsɯᵝ.jɯᵝ/ is a Japanese green tea cultivar. Its name means “morning dew,” reflecting its smooth, fresh character and natural sweetness. It is celebrated for its deep emerald color, pronounced umami, and exceptionally low astringency.
Developed in 1953 in Kagoshima Prefecture, Asatsuyu is often referred to as a “natural gyokuro” due to its rich sweetness and full-bodied flavor, even without heavy shading.
Our Asatsuyu matcha is crafted from a single cultivar grown in its place of origin—Kagoshima. The region’s warm climate and abundant sunlight enhance its sweetness and umami depth, while careful cultivation preserves its smooth, mellow character.
